Description : The PADI Open Water Diver Course can lead to two possible dive certifications: PADI Scuba Diver and PADI Open Water Diver. The PADI Scuba diver course is considered the basic entry level diver course.
The PADI Scuba Diver Qualification is earned by completing some of the Open Water Course. This course is a pre-entry level certification and qualifies you to:
Dive to a maximum of 12 meters diving under the supervision of a PADI Professional while applying the knowledge and skills that you learned during the course. Gain confidence and more dive time before upgrading into the PADI Open Water Diver Course.
The Open Water Diver course is one of the most recognised diver certifications in the world. To gain certification you must successfully complete the entire Open Water Diver course. This program enables you to:
Dive to a depth no greater than 18metres independently with a certified buddy that has the equivalent or higher level certification while applying the knowledge and skills that you learned during the course. Plan your dive and dive your plan, log open water no stop (no decompression) dives. Discover the underwater world and forever blow bubbles.
Continue your diver training with a adventure dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water program, and or in PADI specialty courses, or simply just go for leisure diving.
Pre-requisites:
To become a Scuba Diver you have to be physically fit and is required to have a diver medical. You also need to be comfortable inwater and will be required to complete a 200 metre swimming test and a 10 minute survival float. The minimum age for scuba certifications is 10 years for the Junior Open Water or Junior Scuba Diver certification ( need parent or guardian consent) and 15 for the Openwater Diver or Scuba Diver certification. These certifications show that you successfully completed the course according to the WRSTC (World Recreational Scuba Training Council), and dive centres or resorts would require proof of certification.
Open Water Diver Course Structure:
The PADI Open Water scuba diving course consists of 3 sections:
- Confined water dives 1 -5.
- knowledge development 1 - 5.
- open water dives 1 - 4.
You will need to complete all sections to be certified as an PADI Open Water scuba diver. If you complete confined Open water dives 1 – 3, knowledge development 1 – 3, and open water dives 1 & 2, then you will be certified as a PADI Scuba Diver.
In the confined water dives you will apply dive principles, learn and practice dive safety procedures and skills. You’ll do this in confined water in a controlled environment inside the national park.
Knowledge development gives you the information that you’ll need to complete your Open Water final exam. You will complete knowledge reviews, diver quizzes, and learn how to calculate your scuba dives by using the recreational Dive planner.
In the open water dives, you will apply what you have learnt during Confined Open Water and Knowledge Development and discover the underwater world at its best. You will complete four open water dives.
